Northeast of Saigon lies a city called Da Lat, which is home to one of the most significant air bases in the Vietnam War at this time. The Da Lat Airbase is miles behind friendly lines. However, a recent explosion at the airbase triggered suspicion that the air base was being prepared for an invasion. This rumor caused reinforcements to be sent to the air base, including Special Forces Group Zero. SFGZ gears up for their mission on the USNS Geiger before setting out on a coastal road for the Da Lat air base. On their way to the base, the covoy of jeeps carrying the group came under attack from an ambush camp on the side of the road. Four out of the ten soldiers were killed, but the rest managed to collect their weapons and find cover before their were shot.
After the initial wave on the part of the Viet Cong ambush group, the battle did not last very long. All six of SFGZ survived, and went on to explore the camp. They gathered supplies, and fixed up a radio overnight to contact the Special Forces base in Saigon to relay what happened. It is revealed that nearly all of the reinforcements were ambushed in similar ways to SFGZ. Due to their close proximity to the air base and their special training, SFGZ is instructed to continue north until their reach the air base, and to stay off the road.
These orders allow SFGZ to take advatage of their stealth, as they ambush another crew waiting on the side of the road. A downpour of grenades ends the fight quickly.
